Knaresborough Town FC

A visit to Manse Lane tonight, for the West Riding County Cup 2nd Round vs Ilkley Town. Not a new ground for me, having visited Knaresborough many times, still of the local grounds on offer this is another of my favourites, all it really lacks is a club shop. Excellent pitch, excellent food and a good sized bar.

Teamsheets in and familiar faces galore, lining up for Ilkley, former Harrogate Railway captain and right back, Prince Attakorah and for Knaresborough, ex Garforth promotion winning duo, Alex Zachariou and midfield playmaker Sam Barker.

Knaresborough dominated proceedings 1st half and were 2-0 to the good as the whistle blew, the first an audacious lob from 40 yards plus that sailed over the back pedalling Ilkley keeper, the second also a lob but from much closer range, Barker in the mix of most good things going forward for Knaresborough and at the back, Marshalled superbly by Dan Thirkill.

2nd Half and two quick goals for Knaresborough, both from corners, the first a bullet header from the excellent Thirkill and the second from his centre back partner George Meaking, poor defending from Ilkley and he poked home from six yards. Knaresborough saw the rest of the game out fairly untroubled, a professional display against their lower league opponents, they were only prevented from adding to their tally through some heroics from the Ilkley goalkeeper.

To get to Manse Lane off the A1 follow signs for Knaresborough and head for St James Retail Park, follow the road along to the traffic lights junction, turn left and left again at the asda petrol station and the ground is there just opposite. On public transport the ground is probably a 15/20 walk from Knaresborough Town centre and train station, if arriving into Harrogate, take the Transdev  1a/b/c bus through to Knaresborough.
