Longridge FC
A trip to Preston, to the sleepy village of Longridge, an hour's bus ride out of Preston. A sign of its status that it has a booths supermarket, Longridge had a good high Street for a place of its size, the ground was easy to find, just keep going and you come to it. Nice to see the turnstile open early, I was in the ground at just after 1pm. A great social club bar with the early kick off game on tv, plenty of food choice and some great bags of pick and mix for my sweet tooth and a cup of hot vimto. Unfortunately no pin badges left but they were willing to take details for orders.
Today's opposition were Glossop North End, managed by one of my former York City heroes Richard Brodie. He came into this game though, however, under increasing pressure after a dire run of form.
The game will always be remembered for a horrific injury to the Glossop centre forward, the game was held up for an absolute age, probably lucky not to be abandoned. Well done to the physios for doing all they could as the ambulance was a 90 minute wait. The Longridge captain, responsible for the injury, stayed on the pitch, not subbed and not even shown a yellow card for the challenge, much to the ire of the away contingent. Glossop showed incredible fight and got back into the game with a subs first touch into the back of the net, however their was heartbreak at the death and another defeat for Brodies men.
To get to the ground just get on stagecoach number 1 bus from Preston bus station all the way to Longridge High Street, with the ground a five minute walk away.
