Sunderland RCA FC

 A midweek trip up to the North East, I caught the flixbus to and from Sunderland for the fixture vs Newcastle University. As with most other University sides, Newcastle played some excellent football at times and took the lead just before half time, deservedly so.


Second half and Sunderland RCA seemed to have a but more purpose, equalising immediately, however Newcastle University piled on the pressure and scored the winner 12 minutes from time. 


The ground oozes character, like walking back in time looking at the stand and the bar area, I was slightly worried that the toilets remained locked until about 20 minutes before kick off, but luckily somebody came to open them. I'd eaten earlier in Sunderland so it was just a pie and a tea for me in the ground, fairly limited options but did the job. No club shop so ebay it was for the pin badge.


It's a 30 minute bus ride away from Sunderland Town centre, with the bus dropping you within 5 minutes walk of the ground, which is hidden away at the end of a residential cul de sac.

Entry through a front door, not a turnstile, straight into the bar, mince pie and chips, good quality pies and sausage rolls on offer, I believe they have a partnership with local butchers and bakery.  A rag tag ground that oozes character, trolley shelters for cover, fake grass along the walk ways, fences and decking that have seen better days and small covered areas at the top of a bank behind the goal. A decent little main stand and a fair pitch with a traditional grass surface.  Entry £5 and £3, easier to get to by car rather than public transport. Runcorn Linnets FC

 I arrived in Manchester early doors for this one, not entirely sure where I would be going due to games being called off for waterlogged pitched. Had an excellent bacon and egg sandwich from Manchester Arndale Market, a regular stop off of mine. My first choice game was Maine Road vs AFC Blackpool but at 1130 that fell foul of the rain, so I bought my train ticket to Runcorn East and off I went to the Apec Taxi Stadium. Runcorn always resembles a fondness in my mind, due to being the setting for hit comedy of its time Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, however upon arrival at Runcorn East, the walk to the stadium couldn't have been more bleak, I passed nothing at all along the mile long route to the ground other than a sort of private road way for buses which I've never seen before and seems a good idea. Harrogate Railway FC

 A club that's close to my heart, had two very good friends connected to the club, both of who are no longer with us. One being Mark 'wal' Watson, a regular on the Harrogate Minstermen minibus where I got to know him, someone who was a great character to know and a top city supporter, I also found out after his passing, he had had a spell as Reserve Team Manager at Railway, I think it's fair to say he is much missed amongst his City supporting friends. The other person was Dave Kirk, an ex football referee who was an excellent  knowledgeable football person and person in general, volunteering at Railway, I got to know Dave through briefly working in a post room in a solicitors firm offices in Leeds and we enjoyed many a good conversation about all things football related, he used to always say he enjoyed nothing more than a pint and a Chinese at the end of the working week.  Anyway my revisit, first visit for a lot of years, vs Selby, a North Yorkshire derby, however it...
