AFC Blackpool
My second game of the day took me to the area of Blackpool called Squires Gate, a brisk 2 mile walk from the train station to the ground followed, although it was easier than the alternative of going into Central Blackpool and getting a bus back out.
I arrived at the ground in good time, paid the £6 admission and ws hounded into buying a raffle ticket, it was practically ripped off and placed in my hand before I'd even got the £1 out of my pocket. I walked around the ground taking many pictures, I'd no need to eat as I'd had Scampi and Chips earlier on from Frydays in Preston so wasn't hungry. I took a seat between the dugouts and listened to BBC Radio York commentary of City at Morecambe, it was a tough listen but luckily Ollie Banks in the 99th minute did the job. I stood in this spot for the duration of the game and let me just say, the Holker manager needs to learn something new to shout other than offside every time the opposition attack.
Blackpool played in the traditional orange that I and probably everyone else associate with the town and they were also typical entertainers like their more illustrious league name sakes. They were 1-0 up in the first minute a fumble by the keeper and Holker didn't deal with it, Blackpool made no mistake. 2-0 came soon after, again Holker just not awake to the threat. A long time passed before Blackpool got their 3rd,an excellent finish leaving the keeper with no chance. Holker had one or two long range shots but never really deserved anything and it will be a sobering drive back upto Cumbria for them.
A word for the stand behind the goal, one of the best structures I've seen without any form of roof, come on Blackpool, surely someone out there and put a bit of corrugated sheeting on for the club and community! 410 the crowd this evening, another excellent turn out for a small community based club.
To get to the ground of on the train head for Squires gate station, approximately 2 miles away but it's a flat walk with no hills involved. Plenty of food options along the way too if required.
