Hall Green United FC
A trip to the West Yorkshire League Premier division for a Wakefield derby vs Carlton.
The ground, known as the 24/7 Concrete arena, benefits from a car park over the road as well as parking around the clubhouse. The pitch is beyond the clubhouse over a training pitch and has a very good perimeter fence to lean on. As there are no floodlights at Hall Green the game was 1830 kick off, but with the teams opting to take the full 15 minutes break at half time we were struggling for light at the end of the game, finishing at 2015. At a head count there were approximately 40 people in attendance with the bar doing good trade on its range of alcoholic drinks.
The game was feisty, no doubt because it was a derby game, neither team gave an inch and there were some firm tackles going in. Carlton are in a perilous position in the league and desperately need points to ensure their safety. They started the game well but couldn't turn their dominance into a goal, indeed it was Hall Green who took the lead from a free kick on the edge corner of the area, curled straight in via a slight deflection. Hall Green themselves are struggling but are safe from relegation. Carlton got themselves level with a lob over the keeper, followed in to make sure. Hall green once again took the lead before Carlton lobbed the keeper for a second time. He was a good shot stopper the Hall Green keeper but lacked positional sense.
The game finished all square which doesn't do a lot for either side at the business end of the season when 3pts are crucial.
To get to the ground any arriva bus that goes via Hall Green will suffice, if driving come off the M1 at junction 39 and the ground is about 3 mile away via durkar Lane. Food wise I can recommend Durkar Fisheries about a mile away from the ground. The ground does have a clubhouse for liquid refreshments but not sure it offers much if anything in the way of food.
