Leeds City FC

An easy trip awaited on this Wednesday evening, to Adel Sports and Social Club, home to Leeds City. The complex itself hosts a whole variety of sports with the football pitch being based just around the back of the tennis courts. To find it walk from the car park and follow the path around the cricket pitch past the changing rooms and you will see Memorial Park in front of you. A small perimeter fence to lean on is there if required and the pitch is a decent one. A head count of 26 was the attendance, even a reporter from Leeds and District FA who we had a bit of a chat with.

When we arrived the weather turned to torrential rain but luckily by the time we got out of the car it was only light and stopped for the majority of the game with just one small shower, by the end of the match the sun was in full shining mode. The opposition, Silsden Whitestar are pushing for promotion to the Premier division and it showed, their passing was so quick and crisp but Leeds City showed some resilience at the back and the number 5 in midfield despite having no pace played some very clever passes on the break. It was somehow 0-0 at the break.

Common sense prevailed this evening and a quick 5 minute turnaround was all that was required, again with the lack of floodlights, for me this is the only way to do it. Silsden weren't messing about an absolutely unbelievable ball put the forward through, his shot saved, a very good save, but Silsden followed up and scored with the rebound. The keeper injured himself but stayed on for now. From kick off the same pass again, this time the forward went round the keeper, 2-0 and it felt like game over. The keeper was subbed at this point with an outfield sub going in goal, he was very unorthodox and didn't want to dive at all, it spelled trouble for Leeds City.

They kept the score as it was for a good while but every save was a kick back out as if he was playing centre back. I don't think he picked anything up. The 3rd came with another quick passing move and an absolute arrow of a shot fired into the bottom corner. Then the Silsden number 11 who had been a thorn in the Leeds City side all game put the icing on the cake with a fourth from just inside the area. Leeds City were also down to 10 men at this point with the player laid in agony on the touchline. Laughably when he hobbled off the ref shouted, just let me know if you want to come back on, needless to say that didn't happen. There was also drama in the dugouts as the ref had to go over and tell the opposing managers to cut it out after having a slanging match at each other for a good few minutes.

There is a bar in the car park if you require a drink, not sure if they do food or not, but I dined at the excellent popsies chip shop in bramhope village which really is good.

To get to the ground take bus 28 to Adel from Leeds City Centre or if driving turn up Church Lane off Adel lane and the ground is on the right hand side.
