Beeston St Anthony FC

A Bank Holiday Monday evening fixture at Kingfield, the home of Beeston since around 2010 when they left their Beggars Hill ground. The ground is around the back of a school and the street is a dead end, so there's plenty of parking in the small car park and along the road, without being in the way of anything. The ground boasts a small refreshments kiosk although I didn't sample anything, instead getting a quick bite to eat at the nearby McDonald's opposite Elland Road. To be fair I think there wasn't much else other than tea coffee and maybe crisps and chocolate on offer at the football but better than nothing.

I wasn't holding out much hope for a great spectacle in the game, given the fact the opposition, Pool, had played 25 lost 25, scored 11 and conceded a huge 174. Beeston were dominant, Pool held out for 8 minutes before the first goal, deflected in off the defender. The 2nd came from close range too, lobbed over the keeper before a long range effort, a penalty and a thunderbolt of a shot made it 5-0 at the break and Beeston were coasting.

They turned around fairly quickly at half time which was good with only the officials going back to the dressing rooms. Fair play to Pool who stayed on the pitch despite being out on their feet. The 6th came soon after the break, the forward running through and arrowing home into the bottom corner.

There was to be no more goals, somehow, due to the Pool keeper who probably stopped at least another 5 goals and the woodwork on one occasion. Pool did muster one shot on goal but it was very tame and rolled into the keepers hands. They never gave up though even though massively outclassed. At a head count there was around 45 fans watching.

To get there on public transport get the 24 to Beeston terminus and walk down towards the Whistlestop pub and round the corner to the left, to St Anthony's Road and you will see a road sign for the football club, follow the road round past the factory on your left and school on your right and the ground is at the end of the road.
