Endmoor KGR (Kendal Green Rovers) FC

I was scrabbling around for a midweek game this week, not an easy task in mid May, however the Westmoreland League provided an answer, my first game in this division too, the opposition third placed Cartmel and District.

The ground was very basic, Woodside Road, so much so that I initially thought I had found the wrong place, after driving up and down twice though and a bit of digging on the club's twitter page, I found I was indeed at the correct pitch. The ground is right next to Endmoor Village Hall and has some car parking space available, however if it's an evening like tonight when the locals are playing on the tennis courts and there is an outreach group on in the Village Hall, space soon becomes very tight. I was stunned when someone in a grey ford for the village hall decided to park to the rear of my car, despite having ample space to move forward tight to the hall, so inconsiderate it is untrue, luckily I am used to driving and navigating tight spaces so I managed. I could have almost watched the game from where I parked near the corner flag but I chose to get out and stand to give my knee a much needed stretch. To the left of me was a kids play area with some moronic youths blasting a ball into the basketball net area, if I had got hold of it I would have been like Peter Kay on the John Smiths advert 'av it' and it'd have been over the houses, into the fields and never seen again.

I was expecting a Cartmel win in this one given the current league positions but Endmoor more or less dominated and both teams playing some good passing football with relatively small stoppages along the way, the game flowed nicely. Cartmel took the lead after five minutes, the keeper fumbled and a scruffy goal was tucked away, however we were soon square as Endmoor ran through and the ball rolled past the keeper for 1.1 after just nine minutes. Endmoor then cleared a Cartmel shot off the line four minutes later with the goalkeeper beaten, good defending. Then Endmoor got clean through moments later but the keeper saved, it was a frantic opening to the game, proper end to end stuff. On the half hour mark a floated cross in was straight onto the Endmoor attackers toe for 2.1 before they had a goal disallowed for office minutes later. Endmoor extended their lead to 3.1 before a close range header for Cartmel made it 3.2 going into the break.

The ground did have a changing facility in the far corner but as I like to see at this level it was a quick turnaround just a few minutes break. An excellent Endmoor strike just before the hour, arrowed into the bottom corner made it 4.2 before the bounce off a header tricked the keeper, 5.2 and the goals were raining in now, just like the weather, which was steadily becoming torrential. On 72 minutes a free header made it 6.2 before a scruffy kick made it 7.2, again free in the area, marking non existent. For the eighth and final goal there were wild celebrations as the forward took off his shirt and set off running around the pitch before being duly shown the yellow card. Time was soon called on what was an excellent result for Endmoor to finish their season.

For food I stopped at the excellent Booths supermarket at Kirkby Lonsdale and got a fancy sausage roll and a punnet of blackberries as there is nothing at the ground.
