Leeds Medics and Dentists FC

Saturday had arrived and I was spoilt for choice for games, I decided to tick another West Yorkshire Supreme League ground off with a visit to Weetwood Sports Park. The facility boasts an excellent car park just off the ring road, the stables pub and a bar near the pitch provide refreshments if required. The ground is a 4G surface in a cage but unusually you could only stand outside the cage, however after a time the eyes adjust and the view was not so bad.

The opposition were from Huddersfield in the form of Lepton Highlanders, they had the excellently named 'whale' playing at number 9 but offered little as it didn't take Medics long to establish their superiority. In the tenth minute the linesmans flag rightly stayed down and the number 8 raced through before a fierce strike across goal found the bottom corner. Nine minutes later Medics hit the post, the ball stayed in but it came to nothing, Lepton were getting frustrated at chasing all the time, with lone figure Whale huffing and puffing up front.

It took until just before the half hour mark for Lepton to show something, a good turn by Whale but the shot was weak and easily saved. After the interval Lepton came out with renewed purpose but it was to be short lived, as five minutes in an excellent cross from the right and number 8 got ahead of his marker to slide the ball home, 2-0 Medics. In the 65th minute Whale was subbed off, or you could say beached, and he looked it, the comedy forward was no more. In the 70th minute the Medics number 8 got his hat trick, Lepton were at sixes and sevens at the back, number 16 who had just come on with a heavily strapped leg, managed to lob the ball over and it was an easy headed finish. Lepton then had a succession of corners but all came to nothing, the aerial threat removed once Whale was subbed. There was still time for the Lepton keeper to make a good save and for Medics to have a string of corners themselves but 3-0 was how it finished.
